ROAR OF REGRET: Broncos Stars Instantly Regret Eating Hot Candy as Fletch Gets Fiery Revenge on Reece Walsh

BRISBANE, QLD – What goes around comes around—especially when it’s wrapped in fire. The Brisbane Broncos locker room turned into a scene of chaos and coughing this week after a spicy prank left players gasping for water and laughing through the pain, all thanks to Bryan Fletcher’s long-awaited revenge on star fullback Reece Walsh.

The origin of the fiery fiasco dates back to 2023, when Reece Walsh—known not only for his dazzling footwork on the field but also for his cheeky sense of humour—convinced NRL legend and presenter Bryan “Fletch” Fletcher to eat an innocuous-looking candy during a segment for Fox League.

Unbeknownst to Fletcher, the treat was packed with enough spice to ignite a bushfire in the belly. The prank quickly went viral, with fans and teammates alike howling at Fletcher’s watery eyes, red face, and breathless gasps as he struggled to recover.

But Fletcher, a former Origin forward and seasoned veteran of locker room pranks, is not one to let a joke slide without returning serve.

This week, Fletch struck back—and he struck hard.

The Setup: Sweet Revenge, Literally

While filming with the Broncos for a promotional shoot ahead of their upcoming match, Fletcher brought with him a mysterious stash of “new candies” from an overseas trip. According to Fletcher, they were “super rare, imported from Asia, and incredibly tasty.” Walsh, being the life of the party and always up for a challenge, was quick to rally some teammates to try the lollies.

Among those who joined in the candy taste-test were Kotoni Staggs, Selwyn Cobbo, and Pat Carrigan—stars who, like Walsh, have built reputations as locker room jokesters. The lollies were small, shiny, and unassuming. But the second they hit the players’ tongues, the entire mood shifted.

The Reaction: Fireworks and Frenzy

Video of the moment—released on Fox League’s social media—shows Reece Walsh’s face go from curious to horrified in seconds.

“Bro what the hell is this?!” he choked out, eyes wide and watering. Staggs sprinted to the nearest sink. Cobbo fell onto the bench laughing and crying simultaneously. Carrigan, red-faced and hiccuping, could only manage, “It burns through your soul!”

Even coach Kevin Walters, watching from the sidelines, couldn’t help but burst into laughter at the chaos unfolding before him.

“Serves ’em right,” Walters quipped to media later. “About time someone gave Reece a taste of his own medicine—literally.”

Fletch’s Sweet Satisfaction

Standing off to the side, grinning ear to ear, was Bryan Fletcher—the mastermind of the mayhem. His mission was complete.

“This was personal,” Fletch said, half-jokingly, in a post-prank interview. “Last year, Reece got me good. I thought I was eating a fruit drop. Turns out it was some ghost pepper atomic bomb. I nearly cried on national TV! So yeah… I’ve been planning this for a while.”

Fletcher admitted he sourced the candies online after scouring for the hottest, most unbearable sweet he could legally get his hands on. “These things are no joke—Carolina Reaper extract. You pop one in your mouth, and your ancestors start sweating.”

Walsh Takes It on the Chin—Kind Of

Despite being the main target, Reece Walsh took the prank with a surprising amount of good humour—after he stopped crying, of course.

“That was foul, bro. Fletch is evil,” Walsh laughed, still wiping his face with a towel. “I thought it was just going to be sour or something, not straight-up lava. I’ll give it to him though—he got me.”

But, in true Reece Walsh fashion, he didn’t let the moment pass without issuing a warning.

“He better watch his back now. Prank war’s back on.”

Fans Loving Every Minute

The prank video has quickly gone viral across social media, with fans praising the wholesome chaos and camaraderie between the Broncos players and the Fox League crew.

“Walshy got smoked—literally!” one fan commented. “That’s karma in candy form.”

“Best thing I’ve seen all week,” another wrote. “NRL needs more of this energy.”

With the team flying high in the NRL ladder and showing serious premiership potential, moments like this show there’s no lack of chemistry or morale within the Broncos camp.

Locker Room Culture and Light-Heartedness

While the NRL is known for its intensity and fierce competition, moments like these highlight the importance of locker room culture—where laughter, practical jokes, and team bonding form the backbone of a successful squad.

Pat Carrigan, speaking to media afterward, reflected on the moment.

“Footy’s about more than just what happens on the field. You need these moments. We’re brothers in here, and sometimes brothers stitch each other up. Today was Fletcher’s turn to swing, and man… he hit us all.”

What’s Next?

Now that the fire’s been returned, fans are left wondering: will Reece Walsh strike again? Or will Fletch hang up the prank gloves on a high note?

Don’t count on peace just yet.

“I’ve already got an idea,” Walsh teased with a grin. “Let’s just say it won’t be candy next time.”

Until then, Broncos fans can rest assured knowing their team not only brings the heat on game day—but also behind the scenes, where the brotherhood is as real as the burn in their mouths.
