Vancouver Canucks Make Emergency Roster Move Ahead of Tonight’s Game

The Vancouver Canucks have had to make an emergency roster adjustment, recalling forward Max Sasson from their AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, as they navigate multiple injuries within their lineup.

Sasson Called Up Amid Canucks’ Injury Woes

The team announced on Friday that Sasson, a 24-year-old forward, has been brought up under emergency conditions. Having made his NHL debut earlier this season, Sasson has recorded two goals and four assists in 24 games with Vancouver.

His performance in the AHL has been even more impressive, as he has registered nine goals and 17 assists in 37 games throughout the 2024-25 season. Recently, Sasson has been on a scoring tear, tallying seven points over his last two games. His remarkable play in Abbotsford made him a logical choice for the Canucks as they look to fill gaps left by injured players.

Sasson’s Dominance in the AHL

Sasson has been one of the standout players in the AHL over the last couple of weeks, accumulating 10 points in seven games. His versatility and ability to contribute in multiple ways have made him a valuable asset, both in the AHL and as an emergency reinforcement for the Canucks.

Canucks Dealing with Key Absences

Vancouver is currently without forwards Elias Pettersson and Nils Höglander, both of whom remain in Vancouver recovering from injuries sustained in last Saturday’s game against the New York Rangers. Their absence has created a need for reinforcements, prompting the call-up of Sasson.

Canucks’ Playoff Push Continues

The Canucks are in the midst of a six-game road trip, with their next challenge coming Friday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. They are currently five points behind the St. Louis Blues for the final Western Conference wild-card spot but hold two games in hand, keeping their playoff aspirations alive.

As the Canucks push forward in their postseason chase, Sasson’s addition to the lineup provides them with much-needed depth. Whether he can carry his AHL momentum into the NHL remains to be seen, but his recent performances suggest he could be a key contributor in Vancouver’s lineup.
