Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook has etched his name deeper into NBA history, achieving his 200th career triple-double during a 122-110 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. Westbrook, the league’s all-time leader in triple-doubles, accomplished the feat with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists, cementing his legacy as one of the game’s most dynamic players.
The milestone was sealed in the final moments of the game. With 1:28 remaining, Westbrook secured his 10th rebound after a missed three-pointer by teammate Dario Saric. Moments later, Saric redeemed himself by sinking a critical three-pointer with just 27.7 seconds left, solidifying the Nuggets’ win.
When asked about the missed shot that led to his historic rebound, Westbrook deflected the praise. “I thank [Saric] for making the next one to close the game, which is the most important,” he said.
Westbrook now stands 19 triple-doubles ahead of Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, who previously held the record, and well beyond legends like Magic Johnson (138), Nikola Jokic (136), and LeBron James (117). Reflecting on the achievement, the 36-year-old said, “It’s a blessing. I’m truly grateful to be able to play the game [well enough] to do that. But I’m also appreciative of the ones who came before me.”
Teammates celebrated Westbrook’s historic night, including second-year guard Julian Strawther, who marveled at the accomplishment. “Two hundred triple-doubles is a lot. I don’t even know if I’ve got 200 career games,” Strawther quipped.
For Westbrook, the night was a culmination of his passion for the game. “Anytime we win and I get [a triple-double], I’m always grateful for that,” he said. “It’s my favorite time.”
This latest milestone further solidifies Westbrook’s place among the NBA’s greats, as he continues to set records and inspire the next generation of players.
