Luke Hasz stands out as one of the most impactful additions to Ole football through the transfer portal this offseason.
Formerly with Arkansas, Hasz was ranked as the No. 2 tight end by On3 and was part of a trio of Razorbacks—alongside Jaylon Braxton and Patrick Kutas—who transferred to the Rebels. All three are expected to play key roles in the upcoming season.
Despite interest from powerhouse programs like Alabama and LSU, Hasz chose Ole Miss, which secured the nation’s No. 2 transfer class, per On3 rankings.
Reflecting on his move, Hasz acknowledged the coincidence of three Arkansas players landing at Ole Miss but emphasized that each made their decision independently.
Having already built strong bonds with Braxton and Kutas during their time as Razorbacks, Hasz expressed excitement about reuniting with them.
Hasz has quickly asserted himself as a key offensive weapon for the Rebels, stepping into a program undergoing major roster changes. With over 72 percent of the team’s all-22 lineup being replaced, Hasz fills the void left by Caden Prieskorn, who is headed to the NFL.
He pairs with returning tight end Dae’Quan Wright, forming one of the most promising duos at the position in the SEC.
During his Arkansas tenure, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound tight end recorded 42 receptions, amassing 577 yards and scoring seven touchdowns across 17 games.
His transition to Ole Miss was influenced by several factors, including his familiarity with tight ends coach Joe Cox, whom he knew from his high school recruitment process.
The offensive system under offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. and head coach Lane Kiffin also played a major role in his decision, as Hasz believes it provides an ideal balance between blocking and receiving opportunities for tight ends.
“The atmosphere in Oxford, the people, and everything the school offers made the decision easier,” Hasz said. “Coach Cox was a big factor since I’ve known him for a while. Plus, working with Dae’Quan is great—competing with him helps us both improve.”
Wright and Hasz are expected to operate as co-starters, a setup Hasz sees as mutually beneficial. He appreciates Wright’s experience, work ethic, and ability to provide feedback after plays, believing that their collaboration will only make them stronger. Having both on the field simultaneously will be an advantage for the Rebels.
Ole Miss has now entered its third full week of spring practices. The team held a closed session on Thursday and is set to resume work on Saturday. Additionally, the ‘Meet the Rebels’ event is returning on April 12 after a six-year absence, replacing the traditional spring game.
Though there are many new faces on the roster, Hasz is confident in the direction of the team, especially with first-year starting quarterback Austin Simmons at the helm. Simmons steps in for Jaxson Dart, who started for three years and is projected as a potential first-round NFL Draft pick.
Leaving Arkansas wasn’t an easy decision for Hasz, but he ultimately believed it was best for his future. Ole Miss’ program, coupled with Cox’s background as a former quarterback and his defensive knowledge, convinced Hasz that it was the right move.
Simmons, who saw limited action last season, completed 19 of 32 pass attempts for 282 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 14 rushing yards on five carries.
Hasz has already been impressed by Simmons’ leadership qualities, noting his proactive approach in bringing players together and helping build chemistry within the offense.
“From the moment I arrived, he wanted to get reps in,” Hasz said. “He throws a great ball and is always eager to gather guys for extra work. His leadership is already showing, and he’s a great presence to have on the team.”
As spring practices continue, Hasz is focused on settling into his role and contributing to the Rebels’ success in the upcoming season.
