Alabama OC Nick Sheridan Addresses Offensive Struggles in Oklahoma Loss
Following Alabama’s devastating 24-3 loss to Oklahoma—its worst offensive outing of the season—offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan faced the media on Monday to dissect what went wrong and how the Crimson Tide can recover ahead of the Iron Bowl.
On Jalen Milroe’s Performance and Pick-Six Reaction
Sheridan emphasized the importance of situational awareness, particularly after turnovers. “The No. 1 priority every time you turn the ball over is to get the guy down,” he said, admitting the team “didn’t do a good enough job in that moment.”
Milroe, known for his explosive running ability, struggled to find his usual effectiveness. Sheridan acknowledged that Milroe’s running style sometimes leaned too lateral, noting, “Encouraging him to be a little more north/south in some moments could have led to more production.”
Offensive Line and Execution
When asked if Alabama’s offensive line hindered their performance, Sheridan refuted the idea, stating the issue was team-wide. “We didn’t execute well enough, and that was all of us—coaches and players. It wasn’t one position; we all played a part in it,” he explained.
Sheridan also highlighted the importance of involving more players in the offense, stressing that diverse contributions make a team harder to defend. “Each week, we evaluate who we’re going against and how to get more players involved to best attack the defense,” he added.
Addressing Drops by Receivers
Sheridan expressed surprise at the uncharacteristic drops by Alabama’s pass catchers. “It wasn’t something we expected or something that’s been an issue. Everyone played a part in our lack of execution,” he admitted.
Preparing for the Iron Bowl
Despite the disappointing loss, Sheridan remains optimistic about the team’s resilience. He praised the players’ grit, leadership, and determination to bounce back, adding, “The one thing about this group is their pride and toughness. I know they’ll respond the right way.”
Looking Ahead
As Alabama prepares to host Auburn in the highly anticipated Iron Bowl, Sheridan’s focus is on refining execution and leveraging the team’s strengths to avoid another setback. Can the Crimson Tide regroup in time for Saturday’s showdown, or will Oklahoma’s game serve as a blueprint for Auburn to exploit?
